For lovers of fine wines, Delices and Gourmandises’s catalog contains several wines including Cabernet Franc grape in their blending.
The Cabernet Franc is one of Delices and Gourmandises’ favorites
The Cabernet Franc is a black grape vat. It is the oldest grape grown in the Bordeaux region. One says it crossed the Pyrenees with the pilgrims on their way back from Santiago de Compostela. Present in Aquitaine and in the Loire valley, it is planted on about 36 000 ha. This variety is a very good producer, easy to drive and that comes to maturity before the Cabernet Sauvignon. It likes rain-fed and well drained soils, as it is sensitive to water stress.
Poor in tannins, wines blended with Cabernet Franc were noticed by Delices and Gourmandises for their ability to age fairly quickly, although the great vintages can be long aging. Fleshy and flattering, Cabernet Franc is known for its creamy raspberry flavor. Its bouquet also presents very fruity notes of strawberry and gooseberry.
Widely used in the wines of the Val de Loire, this grape can be found in the Bourgueil, the Chinon or the Saumur-Champigny. But it is also used for blending of the Cabernet d'Anjou, the Bergerac, the Graves or the St. Emilion.
Delices and Gourmandises wines including Cabernet Franc
Among the long-keeping wines selected by Delices and Gourmandises and blended with Cabernet Franc, you can pick the Château Tuilerie Pages and the Château Grand Jean, Bordeaux wines that yet have to be kept for 5 years or more.
If you want a wine that you can enjoy earlier, we recommend two other Bordeaux with fruity aromas, the Château Le Vinata and the Château Fontana. And if you’re fond of game, the AOC Les Vignerons du Buzet, a red wine from Garonne, is to be chosen without hesitation.
