Originally from Toscane where it is exploited under the name Trebbiano, Ugni blanc is mostly planted in France, in Aquitaine, Le Languedoc, and between Angoulême and La Rochelle. It is mainly used to produce dry white wines.
Ugni Blanc is a high yielding grape variety which can produce around 100 to 150 hl/ha. It is not subject to spring frosts due to the fact that it buds quite late. As it grows, its shoots become more vulnerable to winds so that it is necessary to prepare proper trellis. Warm and sunny regions are best for Ugni blanc. Late blight is its most destructive diseases. However, it is resistant to Downey mildew and botrytis.
Ugni Blanc produces a dry, racy, and usually acidic white wine like the Tiberius Blanc which is available at Delices and Gourmandises. It is often blended with Sauvignon and Vognier in order to lessen its natural acidity.
It is also often used to produce well-known brandies after distillation and that is the reason why 98% of the vineyards in the Cognac region are specialized in Ugni Blanc. The white wine produced from that variety of grape can be preserved naturally during the winter season before distillation due to its low alcohol content and its acidic nature.

In warm regions like Le Languedoc, Ugni Blanc produces a smooth and fragrant wine which provides a feeling of fullness and freshness on the palate. Delices and Gourmandises particularly selected the Tiberius Blanc which is a bright colored wine, estate bottled in Languedoc-Roussillon, and usually served between 8° and 10°. It is an excellent aperitif but it could be used as an accompaniment to quiche and white fleshed seafood as well.
However, it is a new addition to Delices and Gourmandises’ wine cellar.
